The perks of being a wallflower - Thoughts and review.

The perks of being a wallflower happened. :)

Like the book says, you kind of feel infinite after reading something this good. 3 hrs of sitting on the toilet seat and yes, I felt infinite. ( Sounds totally not what I mean, but I hope you get me. :P )
This might be my favorite book. It's so perfect, it's crazy.

Mainly it's about this boy, Charlie who's going to high school and is going through a hard time having lost his friend Michael who committed suicide. So he starts writing letters to us readers telling us about his experience through high school. The book as such does not have a 'plot', it's very elusive in the beginning. It's weird how I thought Charlie was a girl until like the 3rd or 4th letter. :| (very weird). So Charlie goes through a lot of new experiences through high school which I cannot relate to as such because our life here is a lot different. So, it was all a little overwhelming at the beginning.
This made it for a very interesting and intriguing read, I think. Very fast paced.

The story stresses upon a lot of things like drug abuse, alcohol abuse, sex, family issues, homosexuality. Throughout the story Charlie is a shy, naive, innocent boy. Emotionally distraught most of the time. He is a wallflower which means that he kind of blends into the background and observes people. He is somewhat a crybaby and has a hard time pleasing himself. He's someone who works hard to please people and cherishes friendships. He comes across as a nervous kid and has many things going wrong with him which he doesn't get to know until the end.
Though he goes through like a blast of things through his first year, he remains genuine and doesn't turn cynical or jaded though all of it. Mainly the book is so realistic, there's no usual 'hero' or a 'villain'. It's all so real. The people. Their experiences. And just growing up as characters. Coming of age, I suppose.
I like the characters of Sam and Patrick. They kind of help Charlie get exposed to all that goes on for an American high-school kid I think. The thing is that the characters kind of became family for me and his friends became my friends because they were characterized so beautifully, like I said before, the book is so real. It makes you feel so good to be involved in his life, to read his personal dairy. The whole group of friends are somewhat like the indie kids of the 90's. So there's a lot of references of Nirvana, the Smiths, pop culture basically of that era.
I especially liked his English teacher 'Bill' who gave him books to read. Made me wish I had someone like that, to give me books and later would listen to me rant about them.
So basically the book is somewhat like a classic. You should read it. I feel it could have been a book in our high school curriculum if not for some graphic scenes and swearing that goes on. The whole book leads to a climax and I think the last 20 pages is where everything kind of starts to make sense. It makes you want to live life right now, to 'participate'. It's basically the book that you wish you had written because it's pure genius. It's a book that I will keep in my shelf and read it again and again not caring if it gets wrinkled or the pages get yellowed. Well, if you haven't read this book, I don't care if you have like an advanced copy of The Casual freaking Vacancy, read THIS.
And about the movie, I just saw the trailer and well I kind of kept on seeing it. No shame. The characters look a lot like I imagined. I'm looking forward to some scenes in specific.
Anyway, bye for now.
Be kind to one another, why did I even write that down? I'm so emotional right now.

Quoting from the book,
“So, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”

PS: Thank you Antara, for the book. :)

"And the only way to get rid of a shadow is to turn off the lights, to stop running from the darkness and face what you fear, head on."

Taken at my very close friend's drama recital. Took my camera out after a long long time. Kind of went OTT with the picture capturing. Might have seen most of the play through the lens but none the less, a really good evening spent there. Have some more pictures to post. This one here might be my favorite among all of the 800 pictures. ( I told you I had gone crazy!) I love the lighting, the Ramayana feel to it,  and the fact that it reminded me of this quote I had hearted a year back.

Guess who's getting all three of the hunger games books? ME ME ME *wink wink* I cannot wait to get that big brown package mashed around with that well known flipkart tape with a lovely "handle with care" sign carefully put on because obviously there's bloody important stuff inside.
And then I hear the books look lovely and there's supposed to be a hunger games t shirt too inside. What are you kidding me? 3 more days. The bloody perks of people who live in the metros and get books in 2-3 days and people like me just have to wait and tick of dates on calendars. :(
Anyway BIG BLOGGY shout-out to Peebeaaaaa! Thank you for telling me. I had lost all hope on getting the books in a reasonable parents-not-giving-me-the-look price. :P

Will tell you when they reach our place, and I am officially out of facebook again. ( Done that before. Didn't work out to say the least. Had my butt back on the very next day. Here's to trying once again. Bleh!)

Chocolate Cake!

*The clatter of flour strewn utensils, the smell of raw eggs, the oh so lovely vanilla essence and the sight of chocolate that makes you dizzy to the core*
Bloggers, readers, dogs, cats, Good people, not so good people....

I-BAKED-A-FREAKIN-CHOCOLATE-CAKE!

And I swear not one person died eating the shit! YAYAYAYA!  I feel like I've climbed the stairs of self actualization!! (not!)

Anyway, I've been pretty much neglecting this little space because of some FIITJEE stuff I have to deal with. Other than that, it's been pretty good..gorging on huge amounts of BnR and getting back on the field with my running shoes on and hanging with the BEST PEOPLE ON THE FACE OF PLANET EARTH.

Give me 2 weeks and I'll be back on track,
Till then here are some random pics that have been lying around; some taken while hanging with Antara, some from Ladakh, and one of my desktop background.

Antara and yours truly on our walk around the campus.

UPDATE!

Holla,

The exams are over! Good times ahead now before class 12 descends. How frickin crazy is it that we are the senior most class in school? I feel laid back and happy all of a sudden, reading books, going out to eat, playing soccer, NOT fretting over stupid exams!
Have been reading the Mediator series, Meg Cabot. It's about this girl who can see the dead talk to them and help them clear their conscience and free them from hanging around after death. What I think is, the book is a lot better than the princess diaries which are so damn SAME. Mia ranting on about life and how hard it is o be a princess now. BITE ME! :/ Anyway so Mediator is way sensible than that, but still I would refer to the book as 'time pass'. It's a light read and you can finish off in a few hours. So, read it if you have nothing else to do. And holy moly, there's this dead person who is supposedly hot and has a six pack, still have no clue how that works. :P
Other than that, I've realized this thing that screws me up big time. And that is PLANNING on what to do. If I come up with a plan to finish off whatever it is I want to, in 5 mins I'm slacking off. It's so screwed up. I've made up a plan so not to PLAN things out and do things spontaneously hoping I'll get more work done that way. And what is with all my creative juices overflowing my tank during the exams and NOW all of a sudden I'm completely drained of anything creative. It's not even fair. I tell you, the exams have this hidden good side to them. I wrote for fanta feb, drew sketches for the first time, danced a lot more than usual.
And now all I'm doing is reading books, sleeping and mending by cut leg. Worthless. My butt does not move and make me start writing something and hence this pointless post. Anyway I wrote this thing after listening to Katy Perry, took the first line; has the same tune.

Summer love

Summer after high school when we first met
Over chit chat and flip flops we were all set
Mornings began with goofing round the beach.

Used to take piggy back rides, play in the blues
Talk about our futures, like we have a clue
Never knew that one day you’d be a stranger too.

Sneaking to your terrace, catching fireflies
Laughing through the night, till the lights would die
Would pinch myself hard to know if this was true?

Cos, in that night of ours
You were the light in that dark place
Over cans of coke and promises
Our friendship was there to stay

Cos in that night of ours
You were captured in my jar
Crawl out or peep through
You would not go any far

You were my summer love from May..

Your wonky blue truck, the Panera breads
The feather you used to braid down my head
Drawing footprints and building castles in the sand

Fighting and squabbling over TV shows
Messing around at the rowdy circus below
Never thought that one day I’d be losing you.
Cos you were my army fool
That summer that we met
Over fireworks and magic shows
Not once did I regret

Cos you were my army bloke
You went off to save our land
We had to break up over silent stares
As my legs gave away in the sands

Boy, You were my love from May..

I feel the beach is my calling. :D

Have a great day,

The one with a lot of music, crap and what not

For the sake of  old times, I promise this post DOES not have an intense poem, or a writing about bungee jumping and whatever I've been posting here for the Fanta Feb. Lay back and enjoy the music :) Feels so refreshing considering I have ONE exam left. Dang! Look at me survive through this whole period of boredom and distress!
So, my recent favorites from youtube :

Mathai is this Indian singer who got selected in the Voice; hope you're watching it..I so recommend. Anyway I am obsessed with her all of a sudden. How sassy is that voice. )

That's her audition there singing an Adele number.

Insanely good cover.

GO ON AND PLAY. No questions!

I never in my dreams would believe anyone could sing this one better than sara bareillis; but then I heard him sing. :)

That's a lot of music lovin for the day.
Catch you in a while,
Much love..and GOOD GRACIOUS LORD did U just see the 50 followers thing-y? I might as well get high from just staring at that. WOOOTSSSSSSSSS. Let me keep you from the thank you speech; I hope you already get that!

Fantabulous February - DAY 14!

3rd post of the month, not worth scrutinizing me okay? Peace hain! :P * @ roshni wink wink *

Well, as today is THE Valentine's day, what are your plans?? Nil, Antara andddd Remyaaa, I hope you guys are NOT studying your asses off; are your valentines your 6 kg books or is there this pwetty boy waiting by the door with a limo parked by your house and a flower held behind his back. I'm going for the latter! :P

As for me, I had this amazing start to V-day. Starting with helping Golu with some gift picking, guys are so screwed up as far as WHAT to give :P, then we went off to the local sweet shop which thankfully had not wrapped at 9.30 pm and bought chocolates and malpoa. AHAHA! There were shops with heart shaped PINK, RED pillows, balloons, flowers everywhere. Crazy times in this little town of ours. And you should have seen the cards, they were huge...I mean for some girl ( Let's consider hypothetically this girl being someone who has to disclose her relationship status from people at home ) if she would have got something that huge would have a hard time shoving it at some place in her room.

Anyway, then we bought 1 rose and 2 name-not-known-2-me flowers and this is the bestttt part, we ran back home and called our moms and golu's grandma to the little space we have in front of our house and presented them flowers. Cutest thing ever...then you know about overwhelmed bong moms, how they squeeze you soo hard with their hugs that you can't even hug them but instantly have your hands up to the sky crying for help then those sloppy kisses OH GOD.

Statutory warnings: Beware of bengali aunties moms whatever if then get so damn happy with you, YOU then have to run away from them, don't wait for the "aay ekhane shona". :P Thank me later! Golu, amazing start to Valentine's day!
And I know this one day concept of spreading love and all is damn absurd, but its nice to be pampered with chocolates maybe or getting this book that you wanted for ages wrapped in a beautifully handmade paper bag or watching this big run of rom coms back to back on HBO. ( If you have nothing else to do, checkout for the movies)

I'm thinking on the lines of watching HBO, with a bucket of chocolate ice cream, chilling with friends OH OH OH before this completely evaporates out, I AM OFF FIITJEE FOR 2 whole weeks. I could shout out my love for life off my terrace, HAPPY DANCING throughout the day.

For the ones alone this year :
FUNN eh?
And to the others getting all decked up for theeee night, dahlingggggsssss this one is for you!

A little Gleeee for you!
And for people like meeeeeeeeeeeeeee

BEST EXCUSE MANNNN :D

Anyway whichever one you are, go spread the pyaar, and hope you have a lovey-dovey-stinkingly-mushy-making-people-around-u-squirm day
Kisses from me and the besttt cupcakes evaaa

Fantabulous February - DAY 7!

I had planned to follow Kanika's awesome initiative but you know what?! like I had comprehended; that didn't work out! So have my 2 nd post of the month! Still wayyy better than what I could produce the last month!
I love watching Gilmore girls. I mean Lorlei has to be the funniest lady ever...WHO can ever talk nonsensical stuff like the way she does? It's insane. I have to say the whole story behind the sitcom, it feels so real..there's no exaggeration. I love how insane the whole town of Stars Hollow is. Each and every character has a part to play and it's a very well made show.
So, today was a holiday. I mean a holiday on Monday is like the best thing evaaa...who doesn't love the very IDEA of sleeping through a Monday morning, sipping on coffee while the other people in this world are rushing off to office, kids singing the national anthem in lines getting bored by every second. No girls, that wasn't me today! Other than that I missed the book fair this year, never happened to me before. THIS DAMNED YEAR is making me miss ON SO MUCH! Hell with class 11 and fiitjee...whatever. Anyway, so I plan to go fliipkarting and buy as much as I want. Maybe the sisterhood series, the rooftops of tehran, I am buying books that's all!
Other than that, I had this amazing dinner at Shankha's, shrimp in white sauce and I loved it! I ahev a thing with food, I love eating...I'd say I live to eat among other things, but yes food is a primary reason.

Well, Back to watching Gilmore,

HOTTEST THING EVER. AND HE'S NOT EVEN GAY :P

Love

Hello there!

I'm back from Kolkata from yet another week of 16 hrs of classes. Get that? 16! Poof! This is how my awesome 2012 is going to be!

So, well...what else. I have been thinking, as is customary let me list out my resolutions for this year.

1. I will not cut my hair ever again.
2. I will run more and ride on the scooty less.
3. I will try to play any sport everyday as much as I can.
4. I will keep my planner on the go and stop not updating.
5. I will stop caring about what others think and stop cramming up my head.
6. I will try to learn to play a new instrument and watch as many movies as I can.
7. I will work harder and not procrastinate much.
8. I will try to do something  creative everyday.

Let's leave it at that for all the basic resolutions.
It's weird how the christmassy feel hasn't left yet. I mean I still see red, green and white shaded things everywhere. It's like I'm still stuck in time! And I did NOTHING this Christmas so maybe it's because I've missed out. Don't you wish we had proper Christmasses? Like the red stockings filled up, the big Christmas tree staked up in the drawing room, opening presents, tearing through wrappers...sounds heavenly. And the way its getting colder here by the day, all I'm wearing is a jumper and a comfy track pant...or maybe a hoodie, and the bad part being that I kind of am wearing off the same clothes everyday :P

Are you people crazy about the ek mein aur ek tum movie...seems fun! I like watching easy going not much intense movies once in a while, ya know! And what else...geared for a new week which will start with me going off to school tomorrow with an ORGANIC test. How cruel is that?

Anyhow,
Meet up next time...peace out

Lights will guide you home.

Hey there,

You are welcome to read my stupid rant.

  • I have a new tennis racket now. Well it's not all new, joy's racket. He won't be playing so I now have this awesome head racket.
  • We had a teachers day celebration at school which mostly consisted of us running wild around the school corridors, staring at the seniors in hot saris and making fun of the teachers and dancing to Senorita :P
  • My hair is growing. What relief. I'm frickin tired of my hair falling over my eyes every single time I bend my head.
  • Writing in points is so much fun.
  • I am finally reading Pride and Prejudice. I know..i know, stop :O ing.
  • and watching lots of gossip girl. Serena is so badass in season 2. I'm tending towards liking Blair more. "Lonely boy" is still so hot! There you go,

  • Can someone tell me why does it seem like class 11 just started? My gawd, I have no track of time or mind, of whats going on.
  • One day I'm in Kharagpur peacefully scooting away with my scooty, next day I'm taking a 6 hr class at fiitjee. It's creepy!
  • Had an awesome time catching up with jnan and suman over coke and yougurt, I miss my old class at times. But I guess, you finally settle down with whatever changes happen around.
  • And I congratulate my very loved Ria for the head girl honor. You know you were the best choice and so deserved it.
  • And I'M OFF TO LADAKH this puja. Hope nothing in the world blunders that plan.
  • And have you guys started your Durga Puja shopping? (Like the best festival here in Bengal, google if you have no clue!)
Off to study chemistry, my blog's getting pretty boring and I haven't taken a decent picture in ages. Sad sad..

Quick update

There are books that you wish wouldn't end, books that are so magical that you simple can't leave them astray and even have to carry them along with you while you go to the loo :P And those are the ones that turn out to be the so-called favorite books. And this book my friend is one of a kind.

To the lives of Rosie Dunne and Alex Stewart. I've fallen in love with your story.

Please read the book, you won't be wrong in doing so.

And I got a makeover. They say they can't recognize the new me :P ( appearance wise ) See if you can?

And Ria don't shout at me on the phone...I literally had to keep my set a metre away and isn't this a lovely forum to talk crap with you! :D

And SHANKHA if you're reading this, I am 100% normal!

And guys out there, tune in, comment and get bored because I have nothing to offer. And BLUE PERIWINKLE, write on your blog babe! Do it now.

I will come up with something productive next time...till then bare with me

Until my head cracks up

Letter to myself,

Hi

This exam thing is killing yo. I can understand that. It happens if you don't study throughout the time and end up with so much load in the end. You don't have to think about the results but just focus on what you're doing. Doing your best is what is important. Who cares if you do amazing in this exam. Do not thing about the result and screw your head. Thins about how much you've learnt. Even if you do really bad on Sunday, the world for you will not end. This is not the end of life. Keep on standing and please do not wreck your head thinking of EXAMS.

Sincerely,

SAM B

Things.

New shirt I got. It's hell comfortable
Hi there,

So, I have been busy. Class 11 is busy. I have no idea how the days are flying by. Didn't I just get admitted to this class? :P Shit!

And well, there are tuitions and work to be done, homework to be done, study systematically and then listen to motivational crap from the parents. It's this whole cycle.

But hey, I'm not complaining if days like today turn up. Where I can laugh my ahem off. Where I can get drunk from the awesomeness of life. Where teasing people and chatting with people you love just make your day. Yes, I'm not complaining today. Today was a good day.

And finally some people are back in school and have started talking to me finally. :) And I did hit the tennis courts... I am a happy kid.

it goes on and on and on, IT GOES ON AND ON AND ON

Okay even though it's heavenly, I can't help but think of missing 2 tennis practices because of this relentless rain.Anyway, enjoy the stupid quality webcam pics. The rain here is beautiful!

Verandah. Yesterday night

Today morning. Still raining.
I have to get back to the courts, wish there were indoor courts out here. That's too much to wish for I guess considering it took them 2 years to come up with a synthetic court. Hows the weather at your place? Is it rainy?

Till next time we meet again,
Ciao

The secret life of the american teenager

Crazy stuff we do. That's me. One of my fav spots in our building.
I've been watching this sitcom for quite sometime now and loving it. Maybe by looking at it for the first time, you'll find it to be the same ol' crap of high school teenagers going wild, but this one has a message. And I've loved watching all the seasons. The sad part is season 3's over. :P And it's ended it such an unexpected note. Can't wait to see what'll happen next. I love the pair of Ricky and Amy. And I'm guessing you guys have no idea what I'm talking abt. So topic change!

Spiderman! Shankha's sick moves!

BTW the awesomeness that happened. I mean I was so damn thrilled after a millennium it seemed....Nadal winning the FRENCH. He killed it didn't he?

Wasn't even in form but still nailed it. :D

Was away the whole of last week in Kolkata...had 52 hrs of class. Never in my life have I studied that much. And Kolkata can be SOO boring if you don't have people to hang out over there. I swear. Spent the whole time watching channel V shows and re runs of each. Pathetic.

I'm living on Rasna and Aam Panna this summer. It's become soo hot this side of the earth. :P And did I tell you - My life long friend ROSHNI totally screwed our hopes of  ever achieving the best. Okay here goes her achievements....*shudders :P *
1. topped the state in the cbse class 12 boards
2. IIT ranked some thousand something
3.AIEEE ranked 500 something.

There were TV channels coming over to her place. Interviews. Over night celebrity. And we goofed around her while the genius was thronged around by journalists who ask the weirdest of questions I tell you.

Example1 : Who do you love more? Mum or dad? (How does that have ANY relation to academics? )

So you think you can JUMP?! Goluuu! Phataphati!
( Bengali word for awesomeness...Meher ur  tutorial continues :P)
And So she's treating us. Something to look forward to...

And I miss SOCCER. Tomorrow hitting the fields.

Bye lovelies

SAM B

So I like posing....any problem? *THE SMIRK* :P

Bawra mann dekhne chala hein ek sapna...

That song has been in my head and it's a lovely song. We even plan to do a dance on it this annual function. Oh and talking about today....THE ROYAL WEDDING :P Well, all along baba kept going about how William is balding and that Diana was much much prettier than Kate, but seriously it was GRAND. And the cars, the crowd, the music, the fashion display....was some sight! Crazy big fat wedding.

So leaving all that aside, I saw this thing on Kanika's blog and Meher's and thought of doing it solely because I have nothing else to write because my life is the crappiest any life can get. Get me? No? Well you would if you had 2 tuitions of 3 hrs and fiitjee of 12 hrs to top it all off. So if your happy and in peace, I am jealous.

Day 10: 10 secrets

This is hard to list.
  1. I am scared of getting handicapped sometimes.
  2. Most of the time I'm confused as in what I want to do. ( That doesn't count as a secret..does it? ) :P
  3. I have wanted to run away from everybody in life once last year.
  4. I don't know anything about my cousin's my dad's side. It's weird when I look at sibling who are very close.
  5. I say a lot a lot a lot of lies to my mom. 90% of them are said for the fun of it. :P Like how I had 2 eggs instead of 1 :P Useless lies. It's fun I tell you.
  6. I sometimes lose self confidence. And I hate it.
  7. I am extremely short tempered with my parents and I have been behaving really really bad with them and I seriously am not proud of it and have no idea how to change it either.
  8. 2010 has been a year that made me learn a LOT about life and have done mistakes and have fallen in love but it's been a life changing year somewhat.
  9. I have started to over-think things lately.
  10. I have hurt people I love but have corrected things and am fine now :) Yes, I'm proud of that.
  11. Oh and one bonus thing : (Who said I was losing it ? :P ) I love football and a group of people dearly, more than anything! And if you are amongst the group, I hope you know..

Much love like always

Kharagpur

Joy wrote a note yesterday night and reading it I felt a sudden deep LOVE and the sudden need to express it somewhere about how much I adore this place called home. Other than commenting about his beautiful words twice, where else do I come to blurt out my thoughts other than here?

So here I go...every stop he took us through this place of ours, the TATA steel stadium, the white ambassador from the railway station, the Tech market rounds, the school of ours, the dew after TATA, Tikka, ... I can't help but think of the day when I'll have to part away with these. And how awful that day seems to be as I try to picture it!

This is home. This is where I have all my memories.

The field in front of Shankha's.
TATA Steel
Shankha's house
Tikka
School
CCD
Shankha's house
Our terrace
THE FRIENDS <3

Every nook and cranny is filled with memories to the brim.
I re-read his note 3 times now.

Thank you for posting it Joy. Your note has me thinking and damn it blew my mind. :)

Yeah...as if I'm the perfect person to teach you bengali! :/

And I took hold of Ria's The Time Traveller's Wife...and had a splendid funn time at her house organizing all the nooks of her huge wardrobe and then had a pura-bengali lunch with food on coconut leaves. Oh the lovely traditions!

Got this picture today. Credit : Ria again. Thank you sooo much for taking the pic. I love it :)
My best buddies :) Can't get any better!
This was sometime this year when we were all punished for bunking class. :P

Day when you JUST CAN'T SLEEP. Period.

Before I start :)
The reasons for being absent from the blogosphere-
  1. The modem adapter crashed and hence I had noo internet access.
  2. Reliance net-connect is a bitch.

SO now that I'm back, I have tons of blogs to go through. Makes me feel I missed on soo much. My dear friend Ria made this blogroll and I feel soo happy that I got listed first. That's nothing less that a blog award to me :D Hehe.

Anddd it's 5.28 in the morning and was awake the whole of yesterday. I can't sleep. I tried, I swear.

Btw, it's amazing @ night. It was very windy throughout the night. Read some Harry Potter for sometime and then walked over to the balcony with the camera and took shadow pics, wind blowing my hair ones. What shit!  I mean seriously I turned into maybe a higher level freak, clicking pictures @ 2 in the dark. The security guy outside was literally ogling and wondering what's got into me. Whatever!

Okay then I watched some TV, The Amazing race season 16, watched some crap hindi serial, DEXTER ( Thabk GOD!). Did some facebooking...all along checking on my parents so that they don't wake up and cry their lungs out on me.

And what else?! Well, I even wrote something about the wind. :|  And @ exactly 4, the birds started cooing :).

The BEST part is when you see the sun rise! Trust me, from this new flat I've never seen the sun rise. IT was unbelievable. And my stupid memory card was full thus no pictures. Have to repeat this ordeal someday later then I guess.

It has been 3 days I haven't slept properly. And damn I can't even write stuff like the insomniac owlcity guy. :| That would be substantial.

And I watched Sleepless in Seattle. How ironic!

Okay Goodbye now people andddd Good night!

^Tom night. Im on!!

I'm off to sleep tight....yes finally! YEAH RYT! :/
